The aim of traffic education is to develop attitudes, knowledge and behaviours that support safe participation in traffic from an early age and to reinforce them throughout life. Systematic and continuous traffic education helps prevent road traffic crashes and contributes to the development of a safe traffic culture and a safer traffic environment.
Traffic safety encompasses traffic education, the development of road users’ attitudes and behaviour, and the creation of a safe traffic environment.
In Estonia, traffic education is integrated into the curricula of preschools, basic schools and upper secondary schools as part of health and safety education.
The Estonian Transport Administration supports traffic education by providing training for teachers and traffic instructors. The training is based on the Adult Education Act, the Continuing Education Standard, quality assurance guidelines for adult education and approved training curricula.
In addition, the Estonian Transport Administration develops educational programmes and produces teaching aids, games, posters, workbooks and other learning materials that support traffic safety learning outcomes and help establish safe traffic habits.
Our goal is to help every road user make informed, responsible and considerate choices in traffic.
