Recreational craft and personal watercraft can now be registered contact-free

20.04.2021 | 08:51

As of last week, recreational crafts and personal watercrafts can be registered without visiting a service bureau of the Transport Administration.

For contact-free registration of a recreational craft or personal watercraft, the customer (the owner of the water craft) has to send a digitally signed application with all the necessary documents and photos of the water craft to the e-mail address of the Transport Administration at [email protected].

The following documents have to be added to the application:

  • documents proving the right of ownership (e.g. a contract of purchase and sale);
  • a declaration of conformity if the watercraft is new and a valid registration certificate issued in the country of origin if the watercraft is used;
  • customs documents if the watercraft is from a country outside of the European Union;
  • clear colour photos of the watercraft’s manufacturer's plate, CE marking, HIN/CIN/WIN code, instructions/safety information in Estonian and photos of the rear of the watercraft from the right side and the front of the watercraft from the left side.

The application must be filled in using a prescribed form, with photos and documents added to the same container which needs to be digitally signed by the owner of the watercraft. The Transport Administration will review the application, enter the craft to the register and send the registration certificate by post to the requested address if everything is in order.

“The Transport Administration considers it important that the services we offer are convenient and meet the expectations of customers,” said the Head of Vehicle Registry Department Martti Kangur.  “These days, it is also important to reduce physical contact in service bureaus. I believe that the new approach to the registration of watercrafts will fulfil both objectives.”
